While Bowie is openly gay, Raj never came to terms with his true sexuality at the time, believing he was straight. Raj began to realize over time that he really is gay and that he wanted to be Bowie's boyfriend.

In the coming out arc, Raj shows that he purposefully doesn't want to tell Wayne that he's gay, in fact the only confessionals of the two of them separeted are when it comes to Raj being gay.
